The ability to read and write music fluently is a skill which can
take a lifetime to master, but with the right sort of teaching most
people can acquire a basic competence in a relatively short time.
All instrumentalists and singers will need to grasp at least the
fundamentals of music theory at some point on their journey towards
technical mastery of their instrument. Most really good
players agree that it's good to start early!
I offer structured training in music theory, following the Royal
Schools of Music's graded syllabus. I also offer lessons in
harmony, counterpoint and composition, as well as arranging,
songwriting and preparing scores for publication.
