John Gull -
Biography
John Gull started
his
musical career in the early 1980s as a boy chorister with the choir
of King's College, Cambridge under the direction of Sir Philip
Ledger CBE and the current Director of Music, Stephen Cleobury CBE
(for many years Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers).
He
took up conducting at the age of fourteen while a music scholar at
Eton College, and went on to study music at Oxford University,
winning an organ scholarship and conducting the choir of Corpus
Christi College.
Twice winner of the
UK National Chamber Music Competition, John has studied with Alastair
Sampson (Piano), Franz Johnston (Piano), Margaret Humphrey Clarke
(Voice), Jeremy Summerley (Choral Conducting), Alan Hand (Trumpet),
Ralph Allwood (Choral Conducting), David Goode (Organ), Pamela Cook
MBE (Voice), Jessica Cash (Singing), John Keys (Organ), David Sanger
(Organ), Inge
Henderson (Alexander Technique) and with the world-renowned
accompanist and composer/arranger Michael Neaum.
John is currently
Director of Music at
St Thomas the Apostle, South Wigston,
Leicester, where he directs a thriving choir of boys and men.
He also runs the popular "Singing
for Fun" workshops at the Richard Attenborough Centre
(University of Leicester), and is the Musical Director for the
"Vitalize" youth choir based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. He is active as a musical director, performer,
composer and music teacher throughout the East Midlands.
